In this issue:
A quick word

Welcome to the last newsletter before the Summer break. Thank you to everyone who made it to the the last session at Leith Victoria - we hope you have a good rest and come back recharged and ready to go in August.

A special thank you to Sally Wood, who gave up her time to give a demonstration and impart some words of wisdom to the swimmers last Sunday. She is a great inspiration to us all and we wish her the best of luck in qualifying for the National Squad.

Thanks also to Hilary Alexander (Joe, Daniel and Rose's mum) who has been taking some amazing photographs poolside. Look out for them in future newsletters.

Finally, a reminder of some important dates:

Training fees

The Committee has been reviewing pool hire costs and monthly training fees.

Pool hire costs have increased substantially over the years and at the moment the training fees are not covering them.

As fees have not increased since 2004 for Prep Group and 2007 for the other squads, we propose to raise the monthly training fees from September as follows:

Prep      £18
Int. 2      £26
Int. 1      £32
Adv.       £36

You will each receive an individual e-mail at the beginning of August to let you know what this means for your family and we would ask that you increase your standing orders from September.

Many thanks

Kathy

Competition reports

Lothian Leagues Round 3 - Prestonpans (8 June 2013)

The final round of the Lothian Leagues took place a few weeks ago. Again, some great swims and PBs.

A special mention to:

  • Charlotte Drainer - first in the 10-11 Girls 50 Breaststroke
  • Alex Dean - second in the 10-11 Girls 50 Butterfly
  • Sophie Hamilton - first in the 12-13 Girls 200 Free and 200 IM
  • Joe Penman - second in the 12-13 Boys 200 Free
  • 12-13 Boys Relay team - taking second place.

Fraser Allison and Jonah Walsh had great swims in the 12-13 Boys 200 IM and 100 Backstroke respectively. However, as this was a time-banded event, both swimmers received "speeding tickets" and unfortunately didn't pick up any points for Inverleith.

Congratulations to the Over 14 Boys team and the 12-13 Boys team (right), both winning overall bronze medals.

Well done everyone!

East Lothian Distance Meet - Prestonpans (22-23 June 2013)

This was a very popular Meet and heavily over-subscribed so only 21 out of the 48 swims we applied for were accepted.

There were some superb swims and fantastic PBs, especially:

  • Sophie Hamilton - winning Gold in the Girls 12 and under 200 Breaststroke and Silver in the 200 Butterfly
  • Fraser Allison - winning Gold in the Boys 12 and under 200 Breastroke and Bronze in the 400 Free
  • Stuart Crawford - who took 60 secs off his entry time in the Boys 13-14 200 Breaststroke
  • Aurea Crolla - who swam a 26 secs PB in the Girls 15 and over 200 Breaststroke
  • Jonah Walsh - who swam a 23 secs PB in the Boys 12 and under 200 Breaststroke and a 20 secs PB in the 400 IM
Many thanks to Fiona and Chris for helping poolside. Chris has a few words he'd like to say:

"Now, before I talk about the results which I know are important, I'd like to mention the behaviour of the children who were there on the Sunday.

Firstly, when the time came from the warm ups, everyone got ready, listened to any instructions and got on with it. There was no moaning or time wasting (unlike a few of the other clubs sitting close by).

Secondly, without being asked, they got up, went to the end of the lane and shouted loads of encouragement and gave lots of support to any Inverleith swimmer competing at the time. I was, and still am, extremely proud of them all for the attitude they showed on Sunday.

Now the facts: 7 out of 8 PBs, 2 Golds and a Silver - how cool is that!

Well done again to all who swam, you should be rightly proud of yourselves".
