Ex-Inverleith swimmer to compete in Glasgow 2014

Inverleith lost out to the world of Athletics but for Jayne Nisbet it worked out well.

Jayne has been selected to represent Scotland in the high-jump at next year's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. We wish her the best of luck and if you have tickets for the Athletics, remember to give her an extra big cheer.

Glasgow to host the 'Duel in the Pool' in December

Tollcross Swimming Pool, Glasgow, will be hosting this year's 'Duel in the Pool' on 21 - 22 December. This is a biennial event involving swimming superstars from two nations competing against each other.

Since 2009 the competition has pitted the best swimmers from Europe against the mighty USA. Swimmers for Team Europe 2013 will include Michael Jamieson, Hannah Miley, Yannick Agnel and Lotte Friis going head-to-head against the likes of Ryan Lochte, Conor Dwyer and Katie Ledecky.

This is a great opportunity for us to see some of the best swimmers in the world in action on our doorstep. For more information and to book your tickets, click here

Social Committee

Volunteers urgently required

We are looking for parents to join the IASC Social Committee following the recent departure of one of its long-standing members, Keith Inglis, whose children no longer swim at the Club.

Everyone, parents included, automatically becomes a member of the IASC Social Club and is invited to attend events organised by the Social Committee. Over the years, Keith has successfully taken the lead in organising the venues and catering for the Club Championships and Presentation Dance as well as fundraisers such as the Summer Sponsored Walk along the Water of Leith.

As Keith is no longer involved, it leaves us with a position that urgently needs to be filled. Current members of the Social Committee (David Little, Judith Hetherington, Kathy Pitcher) have other committments within the Club so we are asking for volunteers to step forward and help ensure these events can continue - we wouldn't be able to hold them without your help.

One of the first tasks will be to organise the Club Championships which take place on the 7 December at Leith Academy and also the Presentation Dance in February. Help will be at hand from the other Committee members but we do need one or more parents to take this on and make these events as, if not more, successful than in the past.

Please let Kathy know if you are interested and willing to take this on either individually or as group.

Finally, if anyone has any suggestions for fund raising opportunities please speak to Kathy or other members of the Committee - we are always on the look out for new ideas.

Many thanks

The Social Committee

Swim Shop

Thanks to everyone who has bought from the club shop over the past year. We are finalising the accounts but have made a healthy donation to the main club account so many thanks for all your support, it really is much appreciated.

There are still one or two bags left if anyone would like one. Look out for some new climatec yellow/black Inverleith t-shirts coming soon, and for our stall at the Club Championships in December.

Don't forget we also have a small permanent stock of floats, pull buoys, goggles and fins along with suits in our Club colours. Hats are always available too. Old kit such as fins can be sold back to the shop for our second-hand resale.

You can catch me at Leith Victoria on a Sunday, call 079999 35178 or email swimshop@inverleith.com

Thanks

Gavin Fulton Club Relay

Thank you to everyone who took part in the first Gavin Fulton Club Relay last month. An amazing 92 swimmers competed in what turned out to be a hugely successful and fun event which the Club hopes to hold on an annual basis.

It was a lovely tribute to Gavin and much appreciated by Jill and Tina (Gavin's sister) who attended and presented the trophies to the winning team. Gavin's parents, Bill and Alison, also sent their appreciation and apologies for being unable to attend.

Many thanks also to those parents who stayed to watch and support the teams. The feedback we have received from swimmers and parents alike has been overwhelmingly positive.

Last but not least, a huge thank you to Malcolm Dow for his hard work and organisational efforts both before and during the event. Not an easy task but one he'll hopefully be happy to repeat next year.

Congratulations to the winning team (L-R Back row: Jonah Walsh, Daniel Penman; Front row: Jacob Lineen, Jasmine MacQuaker, Anna Brodie, Hugo MacPherson) with a time of 5:10.34.
