COMPETITIONS

SCOTTISH OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018
TOLLCROSS
28TH JUNE – 1ST JULY

Congratulations to Cameron Alexander, Felix Hale, Ines Donald, John Mander, Angus Skakle, Kate Gray & Charlotte Drainer who all achieved times to qualify them for the above championships. We managed a number of Long Course PB’s with some super swims.
It is great experience for swimmers to swim in this type of meet which is a higher level than most of the others we swim in & gives the swimmers a chance to watch some great swimming.

SCOTTISH SUMMER MEET 2018
ABERDEEN
13TH – 15TH JULY

We just had three boys & one girl, Hana Tallentire who swims with Inverleith as her second club but trains in Dubai, taking part in this meet although we also had two other girls who qualified but could not compete due to holidays.

Han swam well in her 100F/C with a time just outside her PB. It was lovely to meet her & she did a few sessions with our swimmers before the Summer Meet & got on very well with them.

Felix Hale had six swims & made finals in four of them which was great. His best result was in the 200B/C where he came 7TH, Felix PB’d in the heats & again in the final which was fabulous. He also did PB’s in his 100F/C & 200F/C. He was 10Th in both the 100F/C & 200F/C finals & 9TH in the 100B/C.

Cameron Alexander swan a super 100Fly & managed a PB in his swim.

John Mander PB’d in both his 50B/C & 100B/C. In the 50 he was 1ST reserve for the final but did not get a swim & made the final in the 100 but had to pull out as he was unable to stay for the evening session which was a pity.

Well done everyone, super swimming.

Fiona

INFORMATION EVENING

Information evening: demystifying swimming and competitions

Leith Victoria, 19 August, 430-6

Are you new to the Inverleith ASC? Is your child moving into a squad where they will be competing more frequently?

If so, this evening is for you.

Most of us have learned about swimming and competitions from other parents when sitting poolside. Inverleith Committee thought that it would be good to give parents of swimmers the opportunity to find out more about swimming and competitions.

This is an informal event so please drop in at any point between 4.30 and 6.00 if you want to find out:

  • How you will know what competitions your swimmer has been invited to
  • What is the difference between novice, development, graded, age group and open meets
  • What events your child should enter
  • How does entering and paying for competitions work
  • What is the difference between a coach and a poolside helper?
  • What are officials and why are they important?
  • What does a Team Manager do?

We’re happy to answer any questions you may have on the day.

There is no need to confirm attendance. Please just turn up at a time that suits you.

HANNAH MILEY MASTERCLASS

10.08.18

We were offered several places at a Masterclass with Hannah Miley at Gracemount Leisure Centre. Names were picked out of a hat & the lucky participants were Cara Bryce, Kate Gray, Lucy McDonald, Cameron Alexander, Daniel Ritchie & Michael Skakle. Hannah gave the swimmers & parents, who wanted to stay, a talk on how she started & a bit about her history, she is not a swimmer to follow the pack & gave the example that if the squad were given 10 x 200 the rest would do F/C & she would opt for fly. She also did a couple of interactive things with the swimmers on reaction times & also got them to think about what they would eat before, during & after a meet.

The pool session was on fly & breast-stroke & was very much working on drills for these strokes, some we knew & others we will be trying in training. It was only a group of 12, 6 from IH & 6 from Midlothian, which was great as Hannah is quite softly spoken. One or two of our swimmers were delighted to be asked to demonstrate something in the pool. Hannah also went in to demonstrate one of the drills.

It was a lovely afternoon & at the end swimmers received a signed card & a water bottle. Hannah was also happy to sign t-shirts etc & pose for photos. She was lovely & still very enthusiastic about her sport.
