AGM

Our AGM will take place next month, and is open to everyone over the age of 16, which will be at Wardie Parish Church, Wednesday 28th November at 8.15 pm. Can you all please have a serious think about joining the Management Committee. Initially there would not be a specific role for you but this may change throughout the year. We meet on average 8 times a year.

If you wish to know more please speak to Kathy.

Gavin Fulton Canon relay

This event will take place on Sunday 11 November, an email will be sent shortly and a reply will be required to allow Malcolm to make up the teams in advance. If your child/ children have Inverleith T-shirts they should bring them on the day as Hilary may try to get an up to date Club photo. If you don't have one please speak to Angie Bryce for details of how to purchase.

Huntly and Anderson Cups

As most of you will know these Cups take place every three months, those on trial can take part on a time only basis, the next date is Sunday 18 November, full details will be sent detailing warm up times etc. PLEASE make sure your children have their water bottles, a t-shirt to keep warm between races and an extra towel, ALSO they must remain poolside with their coach throughout the whole event. NO mobile devices capable of taking photos are allowed.

Club Championships

Annual Club Championships will take place on Saturday 1 December at Leith Academy. Time keepers will be required along with volunteers to make up rolls and to look after the cafe area. Persons to run a tombola in aid of Club funds would be great too.

If you can help please let Kathy know

Thanks

Kathy

EAST DISTRICT TIME TRIALS
20TH & 21ST OCTOBER, 2018

We had a number of swimmers who took part in the above competition. There were no medals up for grabs, swimmers were just aiming to do the best times that they were able to on the day. Some swimmers managed to achieve ED Age Group times which was fantastic. We also had 16PB swims, which was brilliant. Felix Hale did a massive 21 second PB on his 800F/C swim & Sam Drainer took 13secs off his 400F/C & his 200F/C. Many of the rest of the swimmers took between 4 & 6secs off their times.

Not only did we have great times but some really super races with swimmers battling right to the wall.

Well done to Leo Bryce, Charlotte Drainer, Joshua Drainer, Sam Drainer, Kate Gray, Felix Hale, Sasha Hale, Daniel Main, Luke McDonald & Isabelle Roe who all took part in the Time Trials. It was a very long weekend at Prestonpans with lots of heats of distance events.

East District Age Group Championships (EDAGS): what are they and when are they taking place?

Scottish Swimming is divided into four districts: East, Midland, North and West. Each district supports the clubs and swimmers in their area.

We are in East District.

Every year, SASA East District runs Age Group Championships over several weekends from the end of November to early February. Usually there are three, but this year there are four. The dates are:

  • 24-25 November (distance events – 400m+ swims)
  • 22 December (50m sprints and mixed relays)
  • 12-13 January (200m events and Telfer Cup mixed relays)
  • 9-10 February (100m events, 200IM and relays)

For each age group, there are consideration times. Please note that age is the swimmer’s age at the end of 2019 – this is because the competition takes place over several months. It is also because some swimmers from district competitions go on to compete in national competitions and they also use age at the end of the year.

Swimmers have to be faster than the consideration time to enter. And their time has to be accredited (internal times do not count and neither do those from Level 3 competitions).

Most swimmers who compete in the longer distances come from Performance Squad because they are more used to swimming these distances. However, for 50s, 100s and 200IM, we often invite swimmers from Intermediate Squads too, as they also have accredited times.

Since swimmers from all over East District compete in these championships, we really want as many of our swimmers to be involved as possible.

Invitations for round 1 have already been sent out.

Invitations for the sprints and mixed relays will be sent out soon.

For more information about the championships, please see meet information on Swim Scotland website:

Today’s trivia: the first letter of the four letter code for clubs used at competitions indicates the region. Inverleith’s code is EIHX.
